Good nutrition starts at home in infancy. I am a practising Paediatric Dietitian and Mum to two young children. I set up ‘www.weaning.ie’ as a safe and independent place for parents to learn the facts about baby nutrition and feeding a family. My aim is to empower parents, get back to basics and prevent problems.
Is food before 1 just for fun? Is a healthy diet for a baby the same as a healthy diet for an adult? Is cow's milk ok in under 1's? What is the best milk for over one's? Should I use wholegrains? Which yoghurts are best? What is a portion size? When is meat ok? Is kale better than red meat? What about salt? What pouches are best? How much milk does my baby need? Are rice cakes ok? My baby is constipated can you help?!
In my class I answer all these questions and many more. I discuss the nutrients that your baby needs, the quantities and the best sources. I discuss the foods you are already eating and which are suitable for your baby, we look at suitable finger foods. We discuss food labels and food trickery/what to watch out for. We look at commerical baby foods. I discuss all the common problems such as fussy eating, constipation, iron deficiency anaemia etc. and how to prevent them.
Weaning is a process and is an important part of your child's development, not only nutritionally but developmentally and socially. Getting it right sets a great foundation for future health.
Please read the reviews to see what others have thought. I am happy to provide ongoing online support to anyone that attends the class. Baby is welcome!
I am a member of the Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute and registered with CORU (www.indi.ie and www.coru.ie).
